近来,对提高船舶低速柴油机效率的需求日益增加。为此,神户制钢所新开发了一种用于半组合式曲轴的廉价低合金钢。这种钢具有高屈服点和高疲劳强度,同时避免了大型锻钢产品中经常发生的淬火开裂风险。曲轴由多种钢种(包括新开发的钢)制造,并评估了从其主要部件上采集的钢件样品的材料性能。结果证实,新开发的钢具有优于传统钢的机械性能和疲劳强度。预计这种新开发的钢将应用于下一代发动机,并有助于遵守预计将变得越来越严格的环境法规。
直列式发动机演变为 V 型发动机。两排气缸称为气缸组,与单个曲轴成 45 度、60 度或 90 度角。两排气缸通常比直列式发动机产生更大的马力。由于气缸组共用一个曲轴箱和一个曲轴,因此 V 型发动机具有合理的功率重量比和较小的迎风面积。活塞可以位于曲轴上方或下方。大多数 V 型发动机有 8 个或 12 个气缸。V 型发动机可以采用液体冷却或空气冷却。第二次世界大战期间开发的 V-12 发动机实现了所有往复式发动机中最高的马力额定值。今天,V 型发动机通常用于经典军用和实验性赛车。[图 1-5]
