JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon delivered a blunt warning to New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani Thursday, dismissing ideological rhetoric and challenging the progressive mayor to prove he can actually govern the nation’s largest city.

The Wall Street heavyweight sharpened his criticism by arguing that many big-city leaders talk politics while failing to solve core problems like housing affordability and economic growth, the New York Post reported.

“They can’t get into details of why is affordable housing not there anymore? Why does this not work? Hopefully he’ll learn. I want him to do a good job.”

Dimon’s comments came after he and other business leaders met with Mamdani, the Democrat Socialist mayor who, since taking office in January, has pushed tax hikes on corporations and wealthy New Yorkers.

The mayor has proposed raising corporate taxes, imposing a new 2% income tax surcharge on millionaires, and creating a luxury tax on second homes worth more than $5 million.

The JPMorgan chief then rattled off rival cities he believes are aggressively competing for talent and investment — including Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Nashville.

Dimon also jumped into the growing debate over taxing affluent Americans, backing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos after Bezos argued lower-income Americans should pay little or no federal income tax.
