Moving towards the target set for the next five years for HSL, we have been working tirelessly on developing cyber security solutions in hydropower and grid-tied power electronic converters to make the system hackfree, and secure by developing countermeasures. In addition, to support the aim of self-sustainable system and achieve efficient management of waste, our proposal for the design and development of a waste-fueled battery charging station using solar-assisted plasma pyrolysis has been approved for funding by the Ministry of Education under the Swachhta Action Plan scheme. With a major contribution of research project grants, the laboratory is equipped with various high-end technological instruments such as Typhoon HIL-604, dSPACE Microlabbox, and OPAL-RT real-time controllers for hardware in-loop simulations. At present, through an industry sponsored research project, HSL develops a laboratory prototype for real-time monitoring & operation of hydropower plants and a black start controller for variable speed hydro- generating units. With the financial support of The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, HSL has designed recently a promising work model for marine transportation electrification.
