The Ministry said these steps will help provide an impetus for the growth of the Indian film industry growth

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Monday said that to speed up development of cinema infrastructure, it has prepared a set of model rules for states to adopt. It has also constituted a study group chaired by Prasoon Joshi to assess the challenges and opportunities before the Indian cinema and submit a report to the Ministry within three months.

Stating that these regulations have been developed after consultations with stakeholders, Ministry added that it has now sent these Model State Cinema Regulations to all State Governments. “States are requested to adopt them. The Ministry will also help States put these rules into practice,” it said in a statement.

Through this measure, the Ministry aims to address challenges in the growth of cinema infrastructure caused by the different regulations followed by different states.

The Ministry said these steps will help provide an impetus for the growth of the Indian film industry growth and increase the number of cinema screens across the country.

The decisions have been taken in a high-level review meeting chaired by the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi on Monday.

Meanwhile, the high-level study group will be chaired by Joshi and will include industry experts and technology partners as well. “The Group will study the opportunities and challenges facing Indian cinema. It will suggest ways to strengthen the sector and recommend steps to make Indian films more competitive globally,” the statement added.
