2017年11月在缅甸的Nay Pyi Taw举行的第17届ASOMM和第6届东盟矿物部长会议（AMMIN）欢迎与IGF合作的倡议，并任务柬埔寨担任ASEAN与IGF互动的国家协调员。东盟和IGF之间的第一次参与是在2018年东盟邀请IGF参加2018年5月在菲律宾Princesa举行的第二届ASOMM联合工作组（JWG）会议。在东盟和IGF之间进行了两次咨询之后，双方同意在2019年12月在泰国曼谷举行的2019 - 2021年东盟矿业合作工作计划2019 - 2021年。尽管有共同的19日大流行，该大流行使部分活动停止了，而其他人则被修改为在线，但根据2019 - 2021年的工作计划，东盟和IGF还是成功地建立了由东盟成员国（AMS）主办的年度可持续发展论坛和研讨会。Ranged of topics were covered within 2019-2021 in response to expressed needs of AMS on important trending issues such as: (i) environmental management and social frameworks which shared guidance on good practices in sustainable minerals development, (ii) environmental impacts of offshore mining, including sustainable sand alternatives, and, (iii) critical minerals and sustainability which can drive investments and innovations as well as minerals supply to meet the demand for高科技和低碳经济。
