鸟类学委员会（OC）于1992年由美国鸟类学家联盟，现场鸟类学家协会，库珀鸟类学会，太平洋海鸟集团，猛禽研究基金会，水鸟学会和威尔逊鸟类学会成立。The Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds (now BirdsCaribbean), Seccíon Mexicana del Consejo Internacional para la Preservacíon de las Aves (CIPAMEX), the Society of Canadian Ornithologists/Société des Ornithologistes du Canada, the Neotropical Ornithological Society, and the North American Crane Working Group have joined in recent years.美国鸟类学家联盟和库珀鸟类学会于2018年合并成立了美国鸟类学会，并从2020年7月1日起撤回了OC。加拿大鸟类学家/社会鸟类学家加拿大的鸟类学家从2021年7月1日起撤离。
