JOINT MEDIA STATEMENT 1. The Fifty-Sixth ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) Meeting was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 17 September 2024. The Meeting, which was chaired by Lao PDR under the theme “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience” was preceded by a preparatory meeting of the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials (SEOM) and joint meetings with the 38 th ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) Council and the 27 th ASEAN Investment Area (AIA) Council. Responding to Regional and Global Developments 2. The Meeting was encouraged by the sustained growth momentum across the region which, despite broader challenges facing the global economy, has shown remarkable resilience over the past two years.
